Communication starts from “The heart of your home”

People say “Kitchen” is the heart of your home. Kitchen is no longer only a room for food preparation. It is truly an integral part of the living space. Today, it is a place where family members grab something to eat, communicate, where you teach and interact with your kids, hangout with friends, grab a drink, work, share laughter and joy.

Nothing changed for long time

Why is the kitchen not as much advanced as rest of the other home areas? What if we can further enhance the environment for communication experience? Finding a space that does not take too much active space and something that looks natural to its environment was the key. Hanging spot lights above the kitchen island was the first thing in mind.

Be connected while away

Who is not busy these days? Sometimes you are away from home, or your loved ones are away from you. Everyone is moving. One of the things Islanp want to highlight is to bring people together and be connected wherever you are or your loved ones are, and still go through individuals’ daily schedules.

Early stage of sketches towards the final direction. I first started off exploring with LED light notifications only, to understand the pure form factor and how this new type of product can well fit into the Kitchen environment. Once I started sketching out a good balance of the overall shape, slowly added in features to become the design it is today.

Transparent Display

Our goal is to provide as much display area as possible without blocking any of the view for the user. Within our current Proof-of-Concept, we quickly prototyped this idea with two projectors. Next step is to see the transparent display market that supports our needs.

apps + notifications + Digital Assistant

Right hand side of the display provided on Islanp is dedicated to any mobile applications that our digital assistant can support, as well as notifications and alerts from all connected smart devices within your home.

Left hand side of the display provided on Islanp is dedicated to a digital human assistant. Our virtual human assistant name is “Nora”. And Nora is powered by UneeQ, which the company that provides digital human platform. You can ask Nora almost about anything, as she can connect to Alexa, Google Home, and other third party IoT devices.

Surround Camera

There are 270 degree cameras at the front and back of the Islanp, so that you can be flexible of your position when you are on face call, capture overall home scene for security purposes and for capturing your favorite party moments!

Adjustable Height

Islanp have self height adjustable feature depending on who is using it. User can control adjusting mechanism simply by asking Nora/Islanp to change the height for specific number, or allow Islanp to measure the eye level of the user and automatically adjust itself.

Surround Speaker

Islanp have surround sound on top of the unit so that the sound can bounce off the house ceiling and direct it to the floor, which is one of many unique features of the product.
